Thanks, but still no luck.

alias: `parport_lowlevel' not found
alias: `parport_pc' not found

parport and parport_probe were not loaded:

# /sbin/rmmod papport
rmmod: module papport not loaded
# /sbin/rmmod papport_probe
rmmod: module papport_probe not loaded

We will try recompiling the kernal. My systems person is new to linux
and so she has to reseach how to do this.
