No doubt that there is a terrible monopoly in the laptop industry.  Many laptops I've seen are loaded with hardware that is "Windows only."  Some, after a lot of work, will work 75% for Linux.  Of course, due to proprietary issues, it seems that everyday people like us cannot build our own from scratch as easily as we can a desktop computer...if at all.  That was one project I was looking forward to.  But, after a lot of asking around, someone finally told me it was nigh impossible.  Yippee.

There is only few doubts in my mind about a Microsoft conspiracy againt Linux on notebooks.  The only way it could really pull it off is to convince companies that are opening hardware sources up to Linux to make drivers available to close their sources again.  So if we see companies like Agere cutting off Linux support...that's when I'll be ready to fire away at Microsoft.
