Re: buying a server

Oh wow. I did a quick estimate on a server as you described from Dell,
and got over $3900. I can do the following for under $3000. I have
customers in this area (that you might know) using several of this
particular box (both SMP and Uniprocessor). Note this is a rackmount with
redundant power supplies! I have a tower server case that we like to use
as well.. Nice & wide :-) Good Air Flow :-) The Dell servers have HORRID
air flow. The closest thing to my server from Dell is over $5000.

Chenbro 2U Rackmount Chassis w/ Redundant 460W Hot-Swap Power Supplies
6 hot swap hard drive trays (IDE)
FDD/CD-Burner
Dual 2.4 GHz Xeon
1GB DDR ECC REG memory
Dual Gigabit Ethernet
3 80GB IDE 8MB Cache HDD
3ware 7506-4 IDE RAID Controller

We only use Exabyte Tape Drives. VXA-2 is higher capacity, and much
faster. Very nice. Check out exabyte.com for details on those drives.

I can give you a better estimate when I know precisely what you're looking
for. We're even doing Opterons these days :-)
