I wasn't comparing it to the GPL. I was making an analogy to Open Source
and Free Software. OS != GPL, as you pointed out.

The point I think the situation hints at is that "demand-side" economics
is just as much a failure as "supply-side" economics, but for different reasons.

"Build it, wait, and they will come" doesn't always work.
Neither does "If you want it, wait, and someone will build it".

The one thing that demand-side has going for it is that increasing
demand produces pressure to increase supply. Increasing supply occurs when
it takes less effort to make more than to compete for the limited ones 
available.

Supply-side, on the other hand, produces no pressure to increase demand merely 
because supply increases. Demand would appear to increase "naturally" due
to an increase in supply *only* if the demand was being artificially 
suppressed in the first place.
