weird loadavg problem

Anybody seen this before?

 10:00am up 48 min, 6 users, load average: 110.21, 69.52, 32.67
199 processes: 195 sleeping, 4 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 0.8% user, 23.6% system, 0.0% nice, 75.5% idle
Mem: 772644K av, 285704K used, 486940K free, 0K shrd, 15100K buff
Swap: 2046736K av, 20K used, 2046716K free 67920K cached

This is from web1, which is in the middle of a RAID 5 resync after a
crash. (I'm still not sure what happened there... Nothing was
logged, and I couldn't see the whole Oops message.) Note the load
average. (And notice how none of the other numbers support a load
average like that.)

As I've been typing this message, the load has gone up to 158.29.
