I wouldn't mess with it unless you like building your own PCMCIA
drivers.  Stick with Orinoco or Aironet if you want the card to just
work on current Linux distributions.

And I'm not just saying that because I can get people reasonably good
deals on Orinoco cards.  ;-)

Just about anything will work, although if you hunt around a bit you
can probably find a deal on some older stock of Orinoco (usually from
Avaya or Lucent, pre-Agere) access points.
