Say what?  Serial port CDROM?  Now that, you have got to tell me about...  
Cause you know what?  I also have a SPARCclassic, with 24MB RAM, and a (shhh! I had to manually tell format what the params were!) 500MB HDD.  Mine, like yours, has an external SUN 1x CROM (mind-numbingly slow), which is hooked up to the external SCSI port.  

I loaded SlackWare 6 on it, which went terribly, because I tried to set it up headless, so I wouldn't have to have both monitors on my desk.  I'll probably reload it with Solaris 2.5.1, and try to buy one of those APEX KVM switches for SPARC/SGI of off eBay.  They're getting down to about $40.00 now...
