I love the idea of focus, but hate the idea of mission statements. They
always remind me of the marketing scum that I've had to put up with in the
past. It's always been my opinion that a mission statement is for framing
and putting on a wall. Focus, is something that you either have, or don't
have, and a mission statement will not affect it one way or another. In
pondering this thread, I only think of one thing. Our mission statement
is in our name.

Southern Illinois Linux Users Group

I'll break this down:

1.	Southern Illinois: This denotes the region in which we operate.
2.	Linux:	This is what the focus of our group is/should be
3.	Users Group:	A group of users.
4.	"Linux Users Group": a group of users of Linux.

By definition, users groups promote and discuss the usage of whatever it
is they happen to be users of. If we were heroin addicts, we'd promote
the newest hypodermics, types of herion, and decorative spoons. A Linux
users group would do the same, only it would promote/discuss new kernel
versions, different types of distributions, new uses, and desktop
environments, etc. So, in my opinion, we could break down a mission
statement to one of three things:

1.	Southern Illinois Linux Users Group
2.	Southern Illinois Linux
3.	Linux

BTW, all of those beat six words :D :D :D
